While I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found everything from the publishing quality to the paper to be superb, there's one thing you really need to know before buying this book. If you're looking for Watts philosophy, this really isn't it. Now obviously there are bits and pieces throughout that are quite insightful but this is an autobiography so if you're expecting to discover some great insight into the inner workings of Zen this isn't it. If however you are a fan of Watts and want to learn about his life and the influences that helped flavor his philosophy then it's an excellent read. The footnotes alone could build out a solid reading list for anyone seeking new material to consume for developing their own perspective. Just be fully aware that is first and foremost an autobiography and while it is interesting, the actual philosophy is far from the driving force behind the book.
